First Day of Surgery

It is the morning of the first day of surgery and that means there are anxious families.  The pediatricians, nurses and medical sudents take vitals of the patients who were admitted yesterday afternoon following screening.

Out of nowhere, coloring books appear to engage children, then someone's iphone with games and the kids begin to be absorbed with entertaining activities.  After a bit, a nurse lends her ipad to the mix and 9-year-old Gladys begins to teach little Franklin how to play one of the games.  Then come the balloons!

Procedures today include cleft lips and tooth extractions.  The children who had disfuguring cleft lips before surgery reappear to their parents.  Lives of those children and their parents have been drastically changed now.
